Center of Attention

Three times a week when J and I go to pick up S from pre-school, J ends up being the center of attention. All the little kids swarm around him to have a look. Most follow the rules of only looking or gently touching his feet (i.e. NOT touching anything he gets into his mouth!) I don't know when the novelty of the new baby will wear off, but it hasn't yet!

But, with a face like this who can resist??

kudos

People in New England often get a bad rap about being unfriendly. Sure you don't get the same "yes, ma'ams" or "no sirs" that you still find in the southern USA, but it's not too bad up here!

Today I came across 5 very friendly people in my walk to the Post Office. I will start out by saying after getting ready to go in record time (only had one kid with me today) we got out to the front porch to discover it was raining. It was pretty light rain, so since I was all set to go and J was tucked in his car seat about to doze off for a nap I decided to go for the walk anyway. While pondering all of this on the porch down the street drove an NStar truck. The driver waved and smiled - how nice! Then an Arlington police man drove down the street. He waved and smiled - how nice again! So off I went on my walk in the rain. When I got to the Post Office a random lady on the street asked if she could open the door for me. How nice! After the Post Office I went to the bakery and a man opened the door for me. How nice! Then as I was walking home another lady had to wait until I passed on the narrowed sidewalk. How nice!

I just wanted to give credit to these nice New Englanders!!

A day at the pond

It took S, J, and I 1 1/2 hours to get out of the house this morning for our walk to Spy Pond. First J was fussy, then I decided he should eat before we go, then S had to gather her 3 bags of toys to play with at the park. S had to be told at least 3 times to put on socks and shoes. Next came the sunscreen, then getting the stroller out of the back of the car and the bike out of the basement. Oops, then I had to go get my sunglasses, a snack and a bottle of water. Well, then S wanted her sunglasses which we had to look for in her playroom. Just when I thought we were ready to go, S informs me that J's diaper is poopy. So, I come back inside to change his diaper. An hour and a half later we are on our way.

S enjoyed playing in the sand. (Thankfully that meant utilizing at least one of the bags of toys she brought which made getting them there worth it.)

J napped the entire time. (Which ended up being his longest and best nap of the day. Figures we'd be out and about which leaves no opportunity for me to nap!)

Finally, S fed some ducks with some of our left over cracker snacks.

We got home 2 hours after we finally left on this 1/2 mile one way walk. J woke up and was hungry. S said she was hungry, but after eating so many crackers while we were out she didn't eat her lunch, and I was utterly exhausted! whew... life is so different with 2 kids!

Baby Smiles

Baby J is quite the smiley baby. He's been social smiling since he was 2 weeks old. Really, he has been - I'm not making it up! I think he smiles a lot so that I will forget all the times when he's really fussy and won't nap.

Post Bath Bundle

J loves getting a bath. Well, I say "loves" because he doesn't cry during them. Here is he is after a nice morning bath:

Crazy Week

This week at S's school is "Crazy Week." It's the last week of learning before the summer scheduling and fun starts. Monday, Sydney had backwards and silly dress day. She wore her skirt inside out and backwards, her pants and shirt backward, and mis matched socks and shoes. She was so excited to go to school and had a great day!

A couple days before Grandma and Grandpa left to return to Ohio we all went to a fantastic park/playground in Arlington for a picnic lunch.

Sydney enjoyed the giant slide:

Jayden enjoyed napping:

Sisterly Love

Big Sister, S, can't get enough of baby brother, J. She runs into our room every morning to check on him and give him kisses. She loves holding him and hugging him. She likes to maneuver his hands and feet so he has them crossed. She likes giving him the pacifier and she is quick to let us know if there is any spit up or diaper change needs. Sometimes the loving can get to be a bit much, both for J and for me. It really is kind of hard to tell her, "Stop loving all over your brother so much!" So, we have to change it around and tell her that J needs "a rest." Usually that lasts for about 30 seconds! Overall, she is doing well tolerating this new family member!
